MS Dhoni, the Indian cricket legend, recently attended at an event and made some fascinating observations. After retiring from international cricket, Dhoni rarely gives interviews, but he does speak at commercial events on occasion.
A similar session was held recently, during which Dhoni discussed a variety of themes. The Indian legend spoke about his future with the Chennai Super Kings and revealed his position for the IPL 2026.
In this article, we will look at the five important statements made by MS Dhoni during an event appearance following India’s fifth Test against England.
1. MS Dhoni says he will be with CSK till 2040

During the past few years, Dhoni has put his supporters on edge wondering whether he will be tempted to participate in another IPL game. Following the end of the IPL 2025, the Chennai Super Kings icon did not give a final reaction whether the team can see him wearing the yellow jersey in the year 2026.
In a recent media event, Dhoni claimed that he would continue to be associated with CSK in the next 15-20 years even on whether he was playing the team or not. Dhoni said:
“Me and CSK, we are together. You know, even for the next 15-20 years (crowd cheers). I hope they don’t think I’ll be playing for another 15-20 years.”
2. MS Dhoni admits CSK have not been up to the mark in the last 2 seasons

Dhoni also referred to the last two seasons of IPL performed by Chennai Super Kings where he admitted that the team was not doing well. Nevertheless, the CSK legend claimed that his team has acquired experience in the last two years.
“Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. But what is important is for you to see the learnings,” Dhoni said at the event.
3. Dhoni confirms Ruturaj Gaikwad will return in IPL 2026

Ruturaj Gaikwad missed a significant portion of the IPL 2025 due to injuries. In his absence, Dhoni had to lead the Chennai Super Kings. At a recent media gathering, Dhoni revealed that Gaikwad will return next season.
“Rutu will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now,” Dhoni said.
Gaikwad’s absence harmed the CSK batting department significantly. By the end of the season, CSK had resolved the most of their hitting troubles, but it was too late to make the playoffs.
4. MS Dhoni calls Chennai his adopted home

During the media session, the host invited Dhoni to partake in a rapid fire exercise, to which the CSK legend accepted. Dhoni was asked to explain Chennai. Here’s how he responded:
“Well, second home. [I’m] an adopted son.”
MS Dhoni has a huge fan base in Chennai. People in Chennai fondly refer to him as ‘Thala’.
5. How CSK almost got a new theme song

Since the first season, the theme song of Chennai Super Kings has been the song Whistle Podu. Though the song has been remixed a few times ever since, the Whistle Podu theme remained unchanged.
During the media event, MS Dhoni revealed that there were plans to change the theme song after three or four seasons of IPL. However, the CSK legend believed that the original theme tune should only be used. He stated that Whistle Podu and CSK would always be united.
