The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will convene a special meeting to create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for next Indian Premier League (IPL) victory parades in the wake of the fatal stampede that marred Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL triumph celebrations. According to reports, the issue would be a major topic of conversation at the BCCI’s 28th Apex Council meeting on June 14.
On June 3, RCB won their first IPL title. The following day, thousands of people gathered in Bengaluru to celebrate the team’s long-awaited victory. However, as a sizable crowd—roughly four lakh people—gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the festivities descended into tragedy. The massive crowd caused a stampede, which killed eleven people and seriously injured fifty-six others. The event’s organization and execution were heavily criticized as a result of the occurrence.

The BCCI publicly criticized the act, although distancing itself from direct involvement. The necessity of accountability was disclosed by Secretary Devajit Saikia. Given the severity of the situation, the Apex Council has made discussing the celebration of the IPL triumph and the necessity of creating norms a major priority.
New Zealand tour of India venues to be finalized

The Karnataka government, on the other hand, has placed the blame on both the BCCI and the RCB, asserting that no formal permission was requested for the event and that the board and the franchise shared security and ticketing agreements.
The Apex Council meeting of June 14 will discuss various other crucial issues besides celebrations protocols formulation. These are the finalisation of venues of the tour of India by New Zealand comprising of three ODIs and five T20Is and the approval of the 2025 26 domestic season schedule.
The Karimnagar District Cricket Association’s president, V. Agam Rao, has also filed a lawsuit alleging misappropriation of Telangana cricket infrastructure funding. The suggested modifications to the Age Verification Programme (AVP), tournament allowance policies for personnel, the BCCI Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials, and the selection of coaches for match referees and umpires will all be discussed by the Council.
