Yashasvi Jaiswal’s early dismissal during the fifth and final Test of the current series against England at The Oval on Thursday, July 31, drew criticism from fans. In the fourth over, with India struggling at 10/1, Jaiswal was removed for two off nine.
Team India needed a strong start from their openers after being asked to bat first on a green field under cloudy skies. The home team’s precise line and lengths from the start made the situation worse.
Gus Atkinson produced a solid length delivery aiming towards Jaiswal’s stumps in just the fourth over. The southpaw had a large space between his bat and pads and missed the ball’s line entirely. The on-field umpire decided it was not out even though the ball ruffled his pads.

Ollie Pope, the captain, went for the review, nevertheless, and it ultimately paid off. Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the dugout after the Hawkeye flashed three reds and the ball crashed against the leg stump.

As Yashasvi Jaiswal’s erratic performance in the series persisted, fans were dissatisfied with his incapacity to counter swing movement. Among them, one wrote:
Yashasvi jaiswal always escapes criticisms , but the reality is he's biggest flat track bully in this team pic.twitter.com/hHRqVBSalc

Jaiswal is pretty average this whole series, even flat pitches , bland bowling he cant score consistently. His wicket is just throw away for India, imagine Rahul showing more consistency than him at opening position. Jaiswal/Nair/Sudarshan these 3 have cause a lot of problem this…

Jaiswal is unreliable. Has technical flaws, head falls over & tends to get squared-on every few deliveries. Needs to follow KL Rahul who probably has the best technique in the world. Has let down the team in crucial moments with the bat & in the field with dropped catches.

Here are some other reactions:
“Hah Jaiswal is so bad man. Why does he even bother showing up at this point? Must- win kinda test and he just folds like he is getting paid per surrender,” one fan commented.
“Jaiswal by his standards is having a subpar series. Less than 300 runs in 9 innings, despite starting well with a hundred is not the typical Jaiswal we know of,” another posted.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal seems to have lost the plot completely mid series. Was kind of brain fade dismissal today bat not coming down in time. High time for him to regather himself else place will become questionable. Looking completely lost on field throughout the series,” a fan noted.
“Jaiswal is an overrated cricketer in Test cricket atleast. Plays 1 good inning and then all shi*y performance throughout the series. Poor game awareness and less maturity also a worrying sign. @BCCI needs to look for more options for an opener,” another wrote.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scripted history earlier in ENG vs IND Test series

Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a great start in the five-match Test series against England in Headingley. In the first innings, he scored a century composed of 101 runs which was also his debut in England.
He made a century off this knock making him the first Indian batter to score a century in his debut tour of Australia and England. Jaiswal made the highest score of his career in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match that was played at Perth in November 2024 where he scored 161. This was his input in leading his team to a win of the matches by 295 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, has had trouble being consistent in the current series against England. In nine innings, he has only scored 293 runs at an average of 32.55.
