Shashank Singh from Punjab Kings calls Rohit Sharma their âdream captainâ since the middle-order batsman supports his teammates and the squad. The leader praised Rohit Sharma for managing the team effectively and showed appreciation for his support of team members.
According to Shashank Rohit maintains excellent relationships with his teammates because he approaches situations chillly while playing fun games with others on the field. During the time both played for the Mumbai domestic team Shashank shared the field with Rohit Sharma. Shashank established himself with his calculated batting performances for Punjab Kings during their 2024 Indian Premier League campaign.

The 33-year-old batting all-rounder stated that his aim is to play under the guidance of the two-time ICC trophy-winning captain Rohit, even though he would be playing under Shreyas Iyer, who was announced as the new captain for the Punjab-based team ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League.
âEveryone says that he [Rohit] backs his players to the hilt; gives them plenty of chances. He is a very smart captain. His one-liners (on the field) are also quite funny. If you ask me one captain I would want to play under, it will be Rohit Sharma,â Shashank said on Shubhankar Mishraâs YouTube channel. âHe is from Bombay. I have also batted with him once. He was not the captain back then. I want to play under his leadership, thatâs my wish.â

From Accidental Buy to Punjab Kingsâ Hero â The Inspiring Journey of Shashank Singh

In the IPL 2024 auction, Punjab Kings selected Shashank under suspicious circumstances after they apparently bid for him in the accelerated round because they were confused and thought he was another player with the same name. The franchise later clarified, though, that the Shashank they ultimately chose was always on their target. In the end, he was signed for INR 20 lakhs, which was his base price.
He ended up becoming the teamâs top run scorer, scoring 354 runs at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65 in 14 games, despite the aforementioned incidents. He went on to become one of their finest players of the season.
Shashank was consequently one of just two players who Punjab Kings kept before the 2025 auction, obtaining a price tag of INR 5.50 crore. After the previous season, it is safe to assume that he has earned the franchiseâs trust.
