MS Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), came under fire from fans for his lackluster performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Friday’s Match 43 of the 2025 Indian Premier League. Dhoni only managed to score six runs off of ten balls in his 400th Twenty20 match, which led to CSK posting a below-average total of 154.
Shaik Rasheed (0) and Sam Curran (9) were the opening batsmen and did not make any noteworthy contributions to the home team. But Ayush Mhatre’s (30) and Ravindra Jadeja’s (21) knocks kept CSK strong.
Dewald Brevis then made an outstanding debut for CSK, hitting 42 off of 25 balls. However, Shivam Dube (12) was fired shortly after, which led to the team’s disintegration.

MS Dhoni entered the game at number eight and came down the track to hit Zeeshan Ansari for a boundary in the direction of the square-leg area. Later on, though, Harshal Patel removed the batter when he was caught for six off ten at the point region.
CSK achieved a decent score of 154 thanks in part to Deepak Hooda’s contribution (22). With four wickets, Patel was the visitors’ main wrecker.
Fans chose to be completely unrestrained in their taunting of Dhoni. One of them revealed that he mimicked a knock akin to the one he received against Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup final.
Thala Dhoni is just ruining his reputation which he has earned throughout his career. I can understand that he's playing for his fans but every beautiful thing has an end.
– As a fan, i just want him to not stretch this anymore and gracefully join CSK's management next year.

Couldn't even reach his favorite number 7
And Dhoni got out on 6
Thala for no reason
That's why one great man has said focus on game not the noise.

“Dhoni losing all the respect he earned over the years from his fans,” a user tweeted.
When MS Dhoni Opened Up About His IPL Retirement Plans

MS Dhoni addressed the speculations surrounding his IPL retirement in a podcast with Raj Shamani that went viral earlier this month.
When questioned about it, Dhoni promised the supporters that he would make a decision before the 2026 IPL season and that he is not quitting the league. He stated:
“No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL. I have kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time, I am 43, by the time IPL 2025 finishes, I will be 44, so after that I have 10 months to decide if I would play or not. But it is not me deciding, it is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that.”
