Shubman Gill was named captain of India’s Test team after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the longest format on May 7. Many people have voiced their concerns over Shubman’s promotion ever since it was announced. The Punjab batter’s poor batting record in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) nations—where he has a Test average of 26.72—is one of the main issues coming out of their team.
Harbhajan Singh, a former off-spinner for India, claimed Shubman Gill possesses the skills necessary to continue the tradition established by the previous Indian captains. The cricket player-turned-commentator asked Indian cricket’s supporters and other stakeholders to give Shubman time to step up.

“Every captain has the capability to carry forward the legacy. Captains are not made in 1-2 months. You give some time to Gill, he will rise to the occasion, and you will see how capable he is as a captain. We have already seen him as a batter, that he is ‘Gill Sahab the great’,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by India Today.
Best wishes to Shubman Gill and Team India: Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh sent good wishes to the Indian team which is all set to take on England in a high-voltage five-match Test series, beginning with the first game at Headingley, Leeds on June 20.
“We hope that India does well once again on English soil. Best wishes to Shubman Gill and Team India. It is a young team but a ‘dum waali team’.”

Returning to Shubman, the hitter, he has been an outstanding performer for India in ODIs. In international cricket, no batsman has scored more runs than him in the 50-over format since 2022. He hasn’t yet been able to fully showcase his potential in Test cricket, though. The 25-year-old averages 59.04 in ODIs but falls to 35.06 in Test matches. Now that he has more responsibilities, Shubman may be able to reach his full potential in the game’s longest format.
