Ashwani Kumar from Mumbai Indians franchise made headlines because of his successful debut performance in IPL 2025. During his first IPL match of 2025 in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Ashwani Kumar secured four wickets against title defenders Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The visitors were bowled out for just 116 runs in the first innings because of his outstanding efforts. The broadcasters spoke with the debutant after the innings break. The 23-year-old bowler Ashwani talked candidly about the team’s culture and the encouragement he got from everyone. Additionally, he disclosed that he was under “a little pressure” and hence did not have lunch.
“I was feeling really good. There was a little pressure earlier, but thanks to the atmosphere of the team, I didn’t feel any pressure. I didn’t have anything for lunch; I just had a banana. There was a little pressure. I wasn’t feeling hungry,” he said. “But still, I played well, so it’s good.”

“We had plans. But [Hardik Pandya, MI captain] said that since it’s your debut match, enjoy yourself. Just keep bowling the way you have been.”

Mumbai Indians secure first win of IPL 2025

MI won its first game of the season after dropping their first two games in a row. Ryan Rickelton, who chased the low aim and smashed a half-century, accepted the job of opener brilliantly. Suryakumar Yadav (27* off 9) stuck with Rickelton and won the match, despite the home team losing a few early wickets to Rohit Sharma (13 off 12) and Will Jacks (16 off 17).
Rickelton blasted four boundaries and five maximums in his undefeated quick-fire innings of 62* runs off 41 balls. With only two wickets taken in the second innings, KKR’s bowling attack was a complete failure. Despite dismissing both batters, Andre Russell was costly, giving up 35 runs in 2.5 overs. MI gained two important points by finishing the run chase in just 12.5 overs.
