England captain Ben Stokes responded in an unusual way to a question during a press conference ahead of the third Test against India at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The veteran claimed he is not from the Meteorological office, despite the fact that the all-rounder’s choice to bowl first in the last decision at Edgbaston was heavily criticized.
Ben Stokes elected to field first in the second Test, as he had done in the first Test at Leeds. Although England won the match at Headingley thanks to the 34-year-old’s choice to bowl first, it backfired horribly in the second innings. With the batting conditions at their finest, India crushed England with a first-inning score of 587 and won by 336 runs.

A reporter at the press conference questioned the captain about why he frequently chooses to bowl first, and he disagreed. The overhead conditions at Edgbaston, he thought, compelled the choice. However, he said that because of the scorching weather all week, the team that wins the toss will choose to bat first at Lord’s in the third Test. According to the all-rounder:
“Well, no. We’re not stuck in our ways about these things, just to make it clear. It’s something that’s been built up. We bowled first at Edgbaston because, you know, decent overhead conditions. But that soon disappeared. Clouds broke out. Yeah, I’m not MET office. I can’t tell what’s going to happen later in the day after 10:30. Lord’s is meant to be really, really hot this week. If that’s the case where the sun is out, blazing tomorrow, whoever wins the toss, is going to end up doing the same thing.”

The host team has made one change to their XI for the third Test, with Jofra Archer replacing Josh Tongue.
Ben Stokes’ Form Under Spotlight as England Aim for Redemption After Edgbaston Loss

The seam-bowling all-rounder has performed admirably with the ball, but ahead of the third Test, his slender batting form is a major concern. Since July 2023, Stokes has not achieved a hundred runs in a Test match. He has also only made seven half-centuries since the stunning 155 against Australia at Lord’s, the most recent being in November 2024 against New Zealand.
He has scored 20, 33, 0, and 33 in the two Test matches he has played against India in this series. If the hosts are to win the series, Stokes needs to be a dominant batsman at Lord’s.
