Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma recently presented a young cricketer of Mumbai and a batter of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Ayush Mhatre, with a bat. The 17 years old hit the headlines in his debut season in the IPL in 2025. He came in place of regular CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad who was to miss out because of injury.
Mhatre played seven games where he scored 240 runs at an average of 34.28 and a very good strike rate of 188.97. He scored a single fifty, the best one being a thrilling 94 in 48 balls against the Royal challengers bangalore (RCB).
The young Mumbai player posted a picture of himself with senior batsman Rohit Sharma on Instagram on Wednesday, June 18, after Sharma gave him a signed bat. Mhatre wrote as the post’s caption:
“A bat, a blessing, and a memory of a lifetime – thank you Rohit da.”

Rohit Sharma last played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2025 Indian Premier League. With four half-centuries and 418 runs at an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 149.28 in 15 innings, the 38-year-old had a respectable season. However, Mumbai lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2, ending their campaign.
Ayush Mhatre Named Captain of India U-19 Squad for England Tour

The India Under-19 squad will travel to England on an away trip. On Friday, June 27, they will begin a five-match ODI series. On July 12, they will play two Test matches. In addition to Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young player from the Rajasthan Royals and another IPL 2025 star, Ayush Mhatre has been selected captain of the team.
