At the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, May 6, the Gujarat Titans (GT) narrowly defeated the Mumbai Indians (MI) by three wickets. With the victory, the Titans, who now have 16 points from 11 games, have surged to the top of the standings.
MI scored 155/8 in 20 overs when batting first, aided by 35 from Suryakumar Yadav and a half-century from Will Jacks. To push the team’s total beyond 155, Korbin Bosch also produced significant contributions in the lower order.

In response, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler’s 72-run combination put GT ahead in the run chase for the majority of the match. Before a few weather delays placed MI ahead, Sherfane Rutherford hammered a quickfire 28 from 15 deliveries.
Using the DLS system, Gujarat required 15 runs off of six deliveries. Gerald Coetzee hit a six and Rahul Tewatia hit a boundary on the opening delivery to give GT an exciting win.
At the Wankhede Stadium, several milestones fell during the thrilling match. Three of them are examined.
1. Suryakumar Yadav has the second-most consecutive 25+ scores in men’s T20s

The ace batter has been in spectacular form for MI, scoring 510 runs in 12 games with an average of 63.75 and a strike rate of more than 170. At the moment, he leads the tournament in runs scored.
Tonight against GT, Suryakumar Yadav hit 35 runs off of 24 balls. In men’s T20 cricket, the right-hander has now scored 25+ runs in 12 straight games. After Temba Bavuma’s 13 straight 25+ scores in men’s T20 cricket, this is the second-highest by a hitter.
2. Hardik Pandya bowls the joint-most balls bowled in IPL

Hardik Pandya, the captain of MI, had a bad day with the ball, giving up 18 runs in a single over. Three wides and two no balls were bowled by the right-arm seamer.
In one over, Hardik bowled 11 deliveries, the most ever made by a bowler in IPL history. Shandeep Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Tushar Deshapande have all bowled 11 deliveries in the past.
3. First instance of a team having three players score over 500 runs in a season

The 2022 Indian Premier League champions have mostly relied on their top three hitters to carry the bulk of the team’s workload. MI’s chances of winning are increased if any one of the top three batters scores a half-century.
Jos Buttler (500), Shubman Gill (508), and Sai Sudarshan (509), the top three batsmen, have all scored 500 runs or more this season. This is the first time that three batters on a club have scored 500 or more in a season.
