In the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, England cricketer Jos Buttler has been outstanding with the Gujarat Titans (GT). Along with Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill, he has contributed to the top order’s stability and has scored runs in each of the first thre e games.
Buttler lavished his skipper Shubman Gill with accolades, calling him a “star” and India’s “Poster Boy” of the future. Although Gill hasn’t had the tournament start he had hoped for, Buttler thinks he is a “brilliant captain” who can effectively lead the team. Notably, Gill is captaining the team for the second consecutive season following Hardik Pandya’s transfer to the Mumbai Indians the previous season.
“Look, Shubman is a star, isn’t he? He is going to be the poster boy of Indian cricket. I think he is a fantastic player. I have really enjoyed it. I think one of the great things with the IPL is that I have played against these guys. But now I get to watch him up close and be on my team. I really like watching him practise and learning things about how he goes about it. He has led the team brilliantly.”

“He has got a nice relationship with the whole team. And he and the coach get on well. And yeah, he has got that passion on the field which I love and also a clear, calm head. So he is doing a fantastic job as leader.”

Buttler was also full of admiration for Sudharsan, Gill’s opening partner. When asked which cricket player has captured his interest, Buttler said Sudharsan has a “bright future” ahead of him and a lot of talent.
Sai Sudharsan has certainly caught my attention: Jos Buttler

“Sai Sudharsan has certainly caught my attention. He was a top player and an exciting talent. But as I said, when you get to see guys up close and you watch him practice, I think he looks like he’s got an incredibly bright future ahead of him. Obviously, he’s got all the talent, the game and everything and is incredibly dedicated. A young man to the game of cricket and the top person to go with it. So I’ve really enjoyed watching him play and sharing a few partnerships with him so far. So yeah, I think he’s got a very, very bright future.”

The Titans produced an eight-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru through the combined effort of nearly 122 runs from Buttler and Sudarshan. Mohammed Siraj delivered an outstanding performance with his bowling skills that earned him three victimries in his four overs for the Player of the Match title at his previous team.
