KL Rahul is probably going to miss the Delhi Capitals’ opening games of the 2025 Indian Premier League season due to personal issues. According to reports, he and his wife, Athiya Shetty, are expecting their first child. As a result, KL may have to miss one or two games for the team in order to perform his paternal responsibilities.
Rahul participated in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 during the recent times. He took the spot of wicketkeeper batter in the XI instead of Rishabh Pant while demonstrating his batting finisher role. During the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 the 32-year-old Karnataka batter played two notable innings of 140 runs at the lower batting position followed by a knock of 42 not-out against Australia in the semifinal. Additionally, he guarded the lower order when the top felt short to end the game in the final against New Zealand, standing not out at 32. In addition, his glove work had clearly improved, albeit he was still having some trouble with the spin.
The Big Question – Who Will Captain Delhi Capitals This Season?

After Rishabh Pant’s move to Lucknow Super Giants the Delhi Capitals now have a two-way captaincy fight between KL Rahul and Axar Patel. Seven seasons as a Delhi Capitals member gives Axar an apparent advantage over Rahul who joined this year.
The Delhi Capitals will make their captaincy announcement right after the Champions Trophy competition ends. The cricket players Axar together with Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav alongside Tristan Stubbs and Jake Fraser-McGurk and Mitchell Starc will gather in Visakhapatnam from March 17 to 18 to practice.

Axar has participated in 150 IPL games, taking 123 wickets at a 7.28 economy rate and hitting 1653 runs at a 131 strike rate. Rahul is a seasoned IPL skipper who has scored four hundreds and collected 4683 runs at a strike rate of 134+ in 132 games. In six of the previous seven seasons, he has scored 500 runs. Despite Axar’s inexperience as captain, Rahul is a formidable candidate due to his track record of leadership. However, Axar might have an advantage due to his long-standing presence in DC.
