During a recent conversation, Sanju Samson shared his admiration for MS Dhoni while discussing the progression of their friendship throughout the years. MS Dhoni and Sanju Samson will compete against each other during the starting match of the 18th Indian Premier League which begins on Saturday, March 22.
Sanju Samson made it his priority to spend maximum time near Dhoni during IPL matches involving both their teams. Following his half-century against Chennai Super Kings that secured a victory, Samson realized that his bond with the captain strengthened.
“Like every young Indian cricketer, I always wanted to be around MS Dhoni. Every time we played against CSK, I wanted to sit and talk to him, ask him how he does things. It was a dream for me. I remember playing a match against CSK in Sharjah, where I finally performed well, scored around 70-80 runs, won the game, and became the Man of the Match. After that, I met Mahi bhai, and since then, our relationship has grown.”

“Even now, I meet him often. Just yesterday, I met him again. It’s truly a blessed feeling, to go from idolizing him to now sitting with him for shoots and events. I feel like I’m living my dream.”

A promotional video featuring Samson and Dhoni showcased the 13-year-old batting talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Rajasthan Royals in the recent months. The match between Rajasthan and Chennai will take place on March 30 at Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium that serves as the inaugural champions’ first two home venues.
In Qualifier 2 last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad eliminated the Royals. The Super Kings, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, finished fifth in the league phase’s points standings and just missed out on a postseason berth.
