The management will reevaluate Rohit Sharma’s condition in the next few days, according to Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene, after the veteran missed the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). On Friday, April 4, the five-time winners suffered their third loss of the season at the Ekana Cricket Stadium after losing by 12 runs.
After being struck on the knee during practice, Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the starting lineup by MI captain Hardik Pandya. Soon after, videos of the senior opening batsman limping up the stairs also went viral on social media.

The degree of Rohit Sharma’s injury and when he would be able to recover are unknown. The batter was having trouble bearing weight on the damaged leg following the hit in the nets and during a pregame fitness test, according to MI head coach Jayawardene.
“Ro got hit on the knee just in the IT band, he tried to bat yesterday and could not put any weight on it. Again, he came and did a fitness test early today to try and it was discomfort for him to put weight on that, so he felt it was 100% for him to play this game. That’s why we thought we will give him a few more days to try and get through that. Unfortunate what happened in the nets,” Jayawardene said during the post-match press conference (via ESPN Cricinfo).
All-rounder Raj Angad Bawa made his franchise debut in the 37-year-old’s place. Additionally, Will Jacks was elevated to open alongside Ryan Rickelton as a result of the injury setback.
Rohit Sharma Struggles with Bat in IPL 2025, Scoring Just 21 Runs in 3 Matches

The starting performances of the veteran batter during IPL 2025 were poor even though he previously led India to win the 2025 Champions Trophy title. He kick-started the season with a duck against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) away from home.
During the MI matches against GT and KKR Rohit Sharma managed to score only 8 runs and 13 runs in respective games. Before an injury made him unavailable for the LSG game he substituted as a substitute impact player in the team.
