The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League begins on March 22 at the Eden Gardens with Kolkata Knight Riders playing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Kolkata. The precipitation risk stands high for this fixture to be canceled since precipitation appears plausible during game time.
Due to an anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of the prospect of severe rainfall, even though Kolkata in particular is experiencing drizzles primarily after dusk. But from March 20 to 22, the city is already under an orange alert, which predicts thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusts.

The opening ceremony featuring Shreya Ghoshal together with Karan Ahuja and Shraddha Kapoor and additional performers will precede the first match. The first phase will see 10% chance of rain yet this is predicted to increase up to 70% by 11 p.m. according to the weather forecast.
The field at Eden Gardens is completely covered, so if the rain stops in the middle of the game, it won’t take long to empty the water and play some balls. In that scenario, a DLS approach or a condensed match may be employed. Both teams will split the points, though, if it is a complete washout.
Both teams have begun exercising at Eden Gardens in the interim, and they have been there until nearly eight o’clock. According to sources, both teams may end their practice session early today, leaving a few hours before the game begins.
