Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals, was fined ₹24 lakh after the team was convicted of its second IPL 2025 over-rate offense. After continuing to play at a slow over-rate against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday in Ahmedabad, Samson and his team were fined.
According to Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, a captain who commits a second over-rate offense in a season would be fined ₹24 lakh, and if they commit a third offense, the officials will no longer suspend them. 25% of their match fees or ₹6 lakh, whichever is less, would be punished to the other players, including the Impact player.
Sanju Samson only played as an Impact player because of an injury during the match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which was the Royals’ first over-rate offense. The team’s captain, Riyan Parag, received a ₹12 punishment for the franchise’s first over-rate infraction.
“My wicket changed the game” – Sanju Samson

The keeper-batter admitted at the post-match presentation that the Royals conceded 15 to 20 runs more than they would have liked. The 41-year-old cricketer from Kerala, though, stated that they also need to improve how they execute their death bowling.
“Around 15-20 runs too many in the bowling. Whenever we wanted to carry the momentum we lost wickets, when me and Hetmyer were batting it was still chaseable but my wicket changed the game. There was some purchase, the way Jofra bowled and picked Gill’s wicket. But the way we bowled at the death, we need to look at it in the meeting tomorrow and come back better.”

The Royals will next play the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Jaipur on Sunday. Jaipur will host its first IPL game of the year.
