India take control as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill register brilliant hundreds on Day 1

England captain Ben Stokes, who won the toss, has been planning to bowl first but just a little bit short. The visitors have received a solid start as the men who opened the batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, contributed to 91 runs being added to the first wicket.
Debutant Sai Sudharsan departed, soon after the dismissal of Rahul, in India. Jaiswal and the captain Shubman Gill however combined forces and scored a 129 run fourth wicket partnership. Jaiswal managed to score a century, as stated before, and captain Gill had played in the frontline as well and had scored an unbeaten century. At stumps Gill was 127 not out off 175 balls with 16 fours and a six.

Rishabh Pant provided him with excellent support and made an impression with an undefeated 65 off 102 balls. With 359 runs scored at a cost of three wickets, India ended Day 1 in a commanding lead. On Day 2, Gill and Pant will resume with the goal of leading India to a huge first innings total and continuing the momentum.
