Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant help India reach 359/3 on Day 1 of 1st Test vs England

Ben Stokes, the captain of England, chose to bowl first in the match after winning the toss. With swinging deliveries, the English pacers caused havoc for the Indian openers and found some assistance with the new ball.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul (42) batted carefully in the beginning and withstood the storm to give the visiting team a strong platform, but they were unable to take any wickets. In order to maintain a healthy scoring rate, the pair respected good deliveries and seized the chance when the bowlers made mistakes.
The first breakthrough for the hosts came when KL Rahul left in the 25th over, just before noon, after putting on a 91-run opening partnership with Jaiswal. At lunchtime, Ben Stokes had reduced India to 92/2 after dismissing debutant Sai Sudharsan for a four-ball duck in the following over.

In the second session, Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) played with a strong attitude and scored three figures in his first Test match played in England. Before Stokes dismissed Jaiswal in the 53rd over, he had good backing from Shubman Gill during their 129-run partnership.
Shubman Gill (127) anchored the innings again in the wake of the wicket and went on to register a dreamlike century in his debut match as captain of the Indian team. Rishabh Pant was the perfect softening match to the captain with a performance of 65 (102) as they got their side to 359/3 at stumps on the first day of the first Test.
