In the 25th game of the current 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), the five-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play the reigning champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On Friday, April 11, the game will take place at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
After losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to begin the season, KKR has now lost three games and won two. In contrast, CSK has lost four games since beginning their campaign with a victory over their bitter rivals, the Mumbai Indians (MI).
After Ruturaj Gaikwad was declared out of the competition due to an elbow fracture the day before their match against KKR, MS Dhoni will now lead CSK. On Thursday, April 10, Stephen Fleming, the team’s head coach, made the formal announcement at a news conference.

Fans will celebrate Dhoni’s return after the exit of Gaikwad because they will finally see him lead the team since the IPL 2023 final. The former CSK player Ajinkya Rahane leads KKR since he spent a lengthy period with the team so he has ample understanding of Yellow Meghnaelestrel strategies.
All eyes will follow three crucial player rivalries during the crucial matchup between the defending finalists.
1. Sunil Narine vs Khaleel Ahmed

KKR’s opening batsman has been Sunil Narine. Although he had a strong start, his recent excursions have fallen short of expectations. Even if Khaleel Ahmed’s performances might use some work, the new-ball bowler has been able to give the team breakthroughs in the powerplay.
How's that for a start #CSK fans? 💛
Khaleel Ahmed strikes twice in the powerplay with huge wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton 💪

The matchup has played out five times across five innings where Ahmed delivered 18 balls to Narine enabling him to make 27 runs. Through these encounters the CSK bowler executed two dismissals of the KKR veteran and their confrontation will continue this time.
2. Shivam Dube vs Varun Chakaravarthy

Shivam Dube has struck some great smashes this season, but he has been dismissed cheaply in nearly every game because he hasn’t been able to extend the innings. Nonetheless, everyone is aware of Dube’s exceptional spin skills.

He will face Varun Chakaravarthy, the team’s best spinner, when CSK plays KKR. With the mystery spinner dismissing the CSK all-rounder once in six innings and the latter hitting the bowler for 53 runs in 29 deliveries, including two fours and five sixes, the two cricketers have a strong history of playing against one another.
3. Venkatesh Iyer vs Ravichandran Ashwin

In order to make room for top-tier batters, Venkatesh Iyer moved comfortably to the middle order. Venkatesh Iyer has been an important cog in the middle, but captain Ajinkya Rahane has assumed command of the top order.
He will face one of the best spinners in cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin, in Chepauk. Since the spinner’s home field is Chennai, he will devise plans to contain the highly effective Madhya Pradesh player in order to put his team ahead of the opposition.
