England Test series India involved the commencement of new World test Championship (WTC). They have come into the England series having lost in two successive set of Test matches at home against New Zealand and overseas in Australia. Hence, they will be motivated to perform and begin anew in a new age.

Indian batters may struggle in England because to the weather and a relatively inexperienced team without key players. But even so, it will be a challenge and a chance to shine. In the past, a few of Indian batters have excelled in England.

Nevertheless, these are India’s top five run scorers in Test matches against England.

1. Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest cricketing superstars, made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1989. Throughout his career, he played 200 Test matches and scored 15921 runs at an average of 53.78, with 51 hundreds and 68 fifties.

India’s top run scorer in Test matches in England is Sachin Tendulkar. From 1990 until 2011, he participated in 17 Test matches for England. He amassed 1575 runs at an average of 54.31 from 30 innings, including four hundreds and eight half-centuries.

2. Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid the former Indian cricketer was one of the few classical Test players. Dravid represented the country in 164 Tests and scored 13288 runs at an average of 42.51 with 36 hundred and 63 fifties.

Dravid is one of the successful batters in England Tests. In England, he featured in 13 tests and he averaged 68.80 runs with 1376 runs, out of a possible 23 innings, between 1996 and 2011. Dravid also registered six hundreds and four half-centuries in the format off the English soil.

3. Sunil Gavaskar

The third on this list is legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar who was arguably a great as well. Gavaskar represented India in 1971 Test match against the West Indies. He featured in 125 tests during his international career and aggregated 10122 runs averagely at 51.12 with 34 centuries and 45 half centuries.

In England Gavaskar played 16 Tests between 1971 and 1989. His combined score was 1152 runs at 41.14 runs per innings in 28 innings. In Test cricket, the right hander scored two centuries and eight half-hundreds in England.

4. Virat Kohli

Recently former Indian Test captain Virat Kohli has declared his retirement in form. His test was in the year 2011 against the West Indies. Kohli played a total of 123 Tests representing the country and scored 9230 runs at an average of 46.85 with 30 hundreds and 31 fifties.

In 2014-2023, Kohli has participated in 17 Tests against England. He is the fourth-highest run-getter by the country in England in Tests with 1096 runs in 33 innings. He had averaged 33.21 in the runs with two hundreds and five half-centuries.

5. Dilip Vengsarkar

Dilip Vengsarkar was among the best Indian batsmen who represented his country in 116 Tests and debuted in 1976 against New Zealand. The right handed batsman had 6868 runs in his test spec with an average of 42.13 with 17100s and 35 half-tons.

Dilip Vengsarkar is the 5th leading scorer of India in Tests in England. He has represented England in 13 Tests between 1979 and 1990. He had 960 runs in 23 games at the average of 48.00 and had four centuries and the number of half-centuries was also four.
