Nita Ambani, the owner of the Mumbai Indians (MI), was recently urged by a fan to restore Rohit Sharma as captain for the current Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. When Ambani visited the Shri Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi on Sunday, April 13, the incidence happened.
Fans reacted negatively when all-rounder Hardik Pandya took over as team captain before of the previous season, replacing the seasoned opening batsman. MI finished bottom in the IPL 2024 points standings with only four victories from 14 games.
A fan was heard telling Ambani in a video that went viral on social media:
“Madam, Madam, Rohit ko captain karo, Rohit ko captain karo (Madam, Madam, make Rohit the captain, make Rohit the captain).”
In response to the fan’s plea, Ambani stated:
“Baba ki marzi [ Sai Baba’s wish].”

In the history of the league, Rohit Sharma has been one of the most successful captains. Mumbai and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) share the most IPL titles with five wins under his leadership.
In 158 games while serving as captain, Sharma guided Mumbai. He had 87 victories and a winning percentage of 55.06 in the end.

Throughout the past 37 years his batting performance remains unimpressive with no large scores appearing in his record. His total scores in five innings amount to 56 runs with an average score of 11.20.
