On Sunday, April 13, the Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2025 winning streak came to an end as the Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated them by 12 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi thanks to three straight run-outs. Karun Nair’s incredible knock of 89 (40) in his comeback match provided the foundation for DC’s chase of 206. With 135 runs on the scoreboard after Nair’s death in the 12th over, the hosts appeared to be in control of the match.
However, DC was in trouble at 160/6 as the middle order fell meekly and failed to use the platform. Vipraj Nigam (14 off 8 balls) made a brief appearance but left before completing the task. With three wickets remaining, the Capitals needed to score 23 runs in the final 12 balls. Ashutosh Sharma put pressure on the Mumbai Indians by hitting two fours in the first three deliveries of Jasprit Bumrah’s 19th over. The visiting team, however, won the match by 12 runs after putting DC out for 193 with three runouts on the following three balls.

“Winning is always special” – MI captain Hardik Pandya after win vs DC in IPL 2025 in Delhi

Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya was pleased with his team’s tenacity and commended DC batsman Karun Nair for his outstanding effort in the second innings during the post-match presentation. Hardik remarked after the victory (via ESPNcricinfo):
“Winning is always special. Especially a game like this, where in first 13 overs you are not there. We were running out of options. The way Karun executed was fantastic. It shows the importance of the hard work he has put in and the runs he has scored over the years.”

Pandya added:
“Karn Sharma was fantastic. To come in on a small ground with 60m boundaries. He bowled with a lot of heart. Fielding is always important. We told ourselves, we are still in it and kept backing ourselves. Dew played a part. We made sure that the game was not over till its over. We knew that a couple of wickets could turn it around.”
