In Tuesday’s (April 8) IPL 2025 encounter, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) mainstay MS Dhoni hit two straight sixes against Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Lockie Ferguson. The match was played at Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
PBKS chose to bat first and, with to a brilliant century from opener Priyansh Arya (103), set up the CSK team for a difficult aim of 220. Before Glenn Maxwell removed Rachin Ravindra (36), CSK’s openers put on a 61-run partnership in 6.3 overs, giving them a respectable start.
Later, an 89-run partnership for the third wicket from Devon Conway (69) and Shivam Dube (42) put them ahead. When 69 runs were needed from 25 deliveries, MS Dhoni was brought to the crease after Dube left in the 16th over because to the increasing necessary rate. Dhoni smashed the final two balls of the 18th over, which was bowled by Lockie Ferguson, in an attempt to move CSK closer to the target after getting his eye in.

“We were just two-three hits away”- CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad after an 18-run loss in IPL 2025 match vs PBKS

Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was pleased with his team’s batting performance and praised PBKS opener Priyansh Arya for his outstanding knock during the post-match presentation. He stated:
“Sometimes you have to appreciate the opponent – Priyansh played really well. It was high risk batting and it came off really well. Even though we got the wickets, they kept the momentum going. Would have been 10-15 runs less had we executed well, but at the end of the day it comes down to the dropped catches.”

“Today was spot on from a batting perspective – two of our best batters who can play pace really well went up the order and we had a great powerplay. It was an improved performance, a lot of positives out of the batting. We were just two-three hits away.”
