Abhishek Nayar and several other coaching staff members were recently thanked by Shreyas Iyer for supporting him throughout difficult times. The Indian batter expressed his desire to maintain relationships with individuals who supported him during his worst moments.
He named Nayar and Pravin Amre as his pillars of strength in a recent conversation.
“See, when I am going through lows in my life, only a few people message me. Their names are Praveen Amre sir and Abhishek Nayar. Like I said, Sagar. Sagar, with whom I trained. There are a few more people who supported me very well at that time. I will always keep such people with me because these people have always seen me since my young days. When something is going well, they stay normal. However, when something goes bad, then they are very good with me. So, I appreciate such a kind of mentality. And if such people are around you, then you will definitely grow,” stated Iyer in a conversation with journalist, Vimal Kumar, as quoted by News18.
Interestingly, Iyer collaborated with Amre while he was a member of the Delhi Capitals. During his time with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022 and 2024, respectively, he worked alongside Nayar. In the Indian establishment, Nayar, a former cricket player for Mumbai, has also collaborated closely with Iyer. This comes after he became an assistant coach on Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff in July 2024.

Iyer represented the Indian Men in Blue team during the latest Champions Trophy competition. After playing five innings the middle-order batter managed to score 243 runs. During the 50-over tournament he scored runs as the runner-up in the record books. The Punjab Kings made an auction purchase of the 30-year-old player for INR 26.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah. The new captain of the team will lead his franchise to turn its dismal performance into success.
