The support staff has been laid off by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), with the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar series disaster likely to result in the dismissal of assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, fielding coach T Dilip, and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai. Some difficult decisions were imminent when the governing body began a thorough investigation into the 1-3 series loss Down Under at the beginning of the year.
Following the successful 2025 Champions Trophy campaign, the BCCI decided to release Abhishek Nayak of his responsibilities, according to a report in the Dainik Jagran. Despite being at their peak in every area, Team India was unable to compensate for their batting shortcomings in red-ball cricket.
The story goes on to say that even though three coaching staff members are scheduled to go, no appointments are anticipated right away. Prior to the home series against England, the BCCI had previously hired Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar as assistant coaches, as well as Sitanshu Kotak as a batting coach. Going ahead, it is anticipated that the former batter will assume Nayar’s duties.
Regarding T Dilip’s role, Ryan ten Doeschate will take over the fielding coaching duties. Before joining the Indian national team, the former Netherlands international was the fielding coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Adrian Le Roux will be named the new strength and conditioning coach by the BCCI. The South African has previously worked with Team India and is currently a member of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) lineup in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
Le Roux was brought on board for the 2001–02 South Africa tour, but he declined an extension. Following the 2025 IPL season, he will formally join the Team India roster.
Members of the coaching staff who have been with the organization for more than three years may be replaced, according to the BCCI’s internal evaluation. After joining the team as Rahul Dravid’s support staff following the 2021 T20 World Cup, T Dilip and Soham Desai both fit within this category.
Abhishek Nayar’s Tenure as India Assistant Coach Ends After Just 8 Months

The former all-rounder joined Gautam Gambhir’s team as an assistant coach after Rahul Dravid left. During the IPL 2024 season, the two were members of the coaching staff for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Since he retired from playing, Abhishek Nayar has worked closely with players. In his later years, he was instrumental in bringing Dinesh Karthik’s career back to life. KL Rahul, a batsman and wicketkeeper, recently gave the former all-rounder credit for his recent progress in white-ball cricket.
