On Thursday, April 24, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) to record their first IPL 2025 home victory. The home team won by 11 runs in the match, which was held in Bangalore’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In the initial innings of the match Kohli alongside Padikkal scored 205/5 which became RCB’s most productive total versus RR in all IPL fixtures. The start provided by Yashasvi Jaiswal to RR became short-lived because the other batters failed to sustain the promising run after his departure.
A 47-run knockout from Dhruv Jurel extended the game for RR while RCB spent most of the match celebrating their regular wicket losses from the middle and tail of the order.
RR was ultimately restricted to 194/9 in 24 overs by RCB. With a four-wicket haul, Josh Hazlewood was the team’s best bowler, and the Rajat Patidar-led team ultimately won their first home match of the year. In contrast, RR suffered their fifth straight IPL 2025 defeat.
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the first batter to hit a six on the first ball of an IPL innings thrice

RR’s chase was initiated by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hit Bhuvneshwar Kumar with a huge six. He had now struck the opening ball of an IPL innings for a six three times. Interestingly, Jaiswal became the first batter to hit the first ball for a six three times, and no other batter has done so more than once.
2. Josh Hazlewood completes 150 T20 scalps

In the second innings of the match, Josh Hazlewood was instrumental with the ball as RCB defended against RR. Hazlewood returned to bowl in the last overs after giving his team a vital breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal within the powerplay.
He produced an instant impression and sent Shimron Hetmyer packing. That was Hazlewood’s 150th wicket in T20 cricket, and he finished with stats of 4/33 to increase his total to 152.
3. Virat Kohli now has the most 50-plus scores batting first in T20s

Virat Kohli reached another milestone in his career through his spectacular 42-ball 70 performance that secured RCB’s 200+ run total. The historic achievement made him surpass Babar Azam and become the player who scored the 62nd fifty-plus inning while batting first in a T20 match.
In T20s, the Pakistani hitter has 61 50+ totals while batting first. He could soon match or possibly surpass Kohli’s total while playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). With 57 and 55 fifty-plus scores while batting first in T20 cricket, Chris Gayle and David Warner are ranked third and fourth on the list, respectively.
4. Virat Kohli now has the second-most 50+ scores in T20 history

Kohli’s knock against RR at RCB’s home field added more feathers to his already impressive cap. In T20 history, he became the player with the second-highest total of 50+ scores.
In his 408th game in the shortest format, Kohli achieved his 111th 50+ score, surpassing Gayle’s record of 110. David Warner, a former Australian international, tops the chart with 117 50+ scores from 404 games.
5. Virat Kohli has the joint-most 50+ scores in IPL in this decade

The former India skipper tied for the most 50+ scores in this decade with his 27th IPL score since the 2020 competition. Kohli joined KL Rahul at the summit after surpassing his old RCB partner Faf du Plessis.
Notably, Kohli owns the record for the most 50+ IPL scores, with 68. His half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 20 put him ahead of David Warner (66) a few days ago, and his knock against RR today added another to his collection.
