On Friday, May 23, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced off in IPL 2025 match 65 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. In their penultimate game of the season, SRH defeated RCB by 42 runs to earn a consolation win.
The match started with Hyderabad batting first. With openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma putting up a 54-run partnership, they got off to a strong start. But during the actual powerplay, both batters were removed quickly after one another.
Ishan Kishan’s batting prowess, which included an undefeated 94-run knock off 48 balls, stole the show. There were five sixes and seven fours throughout the southpaw’s innings.
His batting feats helped SRH score a massive total. Additionally, Aniket Verma wowed the audience with a brief 26-run appearance from nine deliveries. In the end, the side scored 231/6 in 20 overs.
Romario Shepherd took two wickets, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Lungi Ngidi, Suyash Sharma, and Krunal Pandya taking one each. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt’s opening partnership of 80 got the RCB’s run chase off to a good start.

Virat Kohli left after scoring 43 runs off 25 balls. When Salt returned, he contributed 62 runs from 32 deliveries, scoring a magnificent half-century. Their other hitters, though, were unable to have a significant effect.
Pat Cummins bowled well for the SRH, finishing with 4-0-28-3. RCB scored 189 runs and were dismissed in 19.5 overs. For his fireworks with the bat, Kishan was given the Player of the Match title.
The loss for RCB meant a drop to third in the table, bringing them to 17 points after 13 matches. Meanwhile, SRH won 11 games out of their 13 matches and are now in eighth place.
On that point, let us take a look at three moments from the game that caused buzz among the fans:
1. Abhishek Sharma smashes car windshield with monstrous six

Abhishek Sharma hit a big six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling in the second over of the match. A short-of-length delivery from the daring batter resulted in an emphatic maximum over mid-wicket.
The ball landed on the windshield of the stadium’s sponsored automobile after bouncing off the ropes. A video of the incident may be seen here:

Will #RCB find a way to contain the onslaught in their #Race2Top2?

In accordance with an IPL initiative, if a shot damages the display car, the automaker will contribute ₹5 lakh worth of kits to support cricket in the nation’s rural areas.
2. Suyash Sharma dismisses Heinrich Klaasen right after taking Virat Kohli’s advice

Ishan Kishan hit RCB leg spinner Suyash Sharma for consecutive fours to start his second over. Heinrich Klaasen came on strike and hammered him for another boundary.
The 22-year-old recovered, though, with some assistance from Virat Kohli, when he dismissed Klaasen on the over’s sixth ball. The former RCB captain was spotted talking to Suyash before to the game.
Klaasen made a huge smash off a flighted delivery and lost his wicket on the very next ball, proving that his plan had worked. The South African batsman had to go back after hitting 24 runs off of 13 balls when Romario Shepherd finished the catch close to the ropes.
3. Krunal Pandya becomes second batter to be dismissed hit wicket in IPL 2025

All-rounder Krunal Pandya scored just eight runs in his six balls while at the crease. A left-handed batter fell out when he didn’t ground his bat, becoming the second cricketer to be dismissed by a hit wicket this season.
On the fourth ball of the 19th over, the uncommon dismissal occurred. When Pat Cummins hit a wide yorker, Krunal was deep in the crease to counter it. But in the process of trying the stroke, he ended up breaking the stumps with the bat.

In IPL 2025, the first batter to get out through a hit wicket was Abhinav Manohar from SRH. He and the captain were involved in the unusual decision during their match against MI on April 23.
