Shubman Gill, the captain of Team India’s Test team, admitted that he was ecstatic with how nicely everything worked out for them at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Gill claimed that their first-inning total was more than sufficient and that he didn’t anticipate a run chase like Headingley’s.
The tourists won their opening Test at Edgbaston, bringing the five-match series even. India took a 180-run lead and set an unlikely goal of 608 runs after burying England beneath a first-innings total of 587. The hosts only managed 271 in response.

The young player added at the post-match presentation that he was really pleased with how well India had learned from their Leeds loss. According to ESPN Cricinfo, he stated:
“All the things we spoke about after the last game, we were spot on with all of those things. I think the way we came back with our bowling and fielding was tremendous to see. On this kind of wicket we knew that if we got 400-500 runs, it would be enough. Not every game will be like Headingley.”

Team India dropped important catches in both innings of the first Test in Leeds, allowing the hosts to chase down 371 with five wickets to spare. But in the second Test, they barely dropped any. In both innings, Gill smashed 269 and 161, playing a captain’s knock.
“He was just magnificent for us” – Shubman Gill hails Akash Deep

Akash Deep took ten wickets in the second Test after taking Jasprit Bumrah’s spot in the starting lineup. The right-arm seamer was perfect on a pitch that was nearly unresponsive, Gill thought. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the cricket player from Punjab stated:
“I think he [Akash Deep] bowled with so much heart and the areas and the lengths that he hit, he was just getting the ball to move both ways. On wickets like these, it’s very difficult to get the ball moving in both directions and he was able to do that. He was just magnificent for us.”

On July 10, India and England will play their third Test match at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
