The Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by a slim margin in IPL 2025 match 67. The match took place on Friday, May 30 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Following a fierce victory, MI advanced to the IPL 2025 and will now play in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
MI batted first in the final game and scored a solid total of 228/5 in 20 overs. It followed a responsible 81 (50) knock by Rohit Sharma. In the batting department, Sharma was assisted by Jonny Bairstow (47), Suryakumar Yadav (33), Tilak Varma (25), and Hardik Pandya (22). In the first innings, R Sai Kishore and Prasidh Krishna each took two wickets for GT.
Trent Boult startled GT early in the second innings by removing their skipper, Shubman Gill (1), with the fourth ball of the first over. By hitting boundaries frequently to maintain the necessary pace, Sai Sudharsan prevented it from affecting his team. After making a brief appearance and scoring 20 (10) before being hit-wicket in the seventh over, Kusal Mendis provided him with some help.

Sudharsan and Washington Sundar (48) then put together an 84-run stand for the third wicket, putting GT in command of the chase. By ending a risky stand, Jasprit Bumrah put MI back in the game by dismissing Sundar in the fourteenth over. GT was at 170/4 when Sai Sudharsan (80) left after one over as well. Then, in the final five overs, MI bowlers gave an outstanding performance, limiting GT to 208/6 in 20 overs and winning the match by 20 runs.

Shubman Gill reacts after Gujarat Titans lose to Mumbai Indians by 20 runs

At the post-match presentation, GT skipper Shubman Gill evaluated his team’s performance following a humiliating loss to MI, saying:
“Last three four overs didn’t go our way but still a great game of cricket. Never easy if we drop three sitters, it doesn’t help. The message was simple, just play the game you want to play and the goal was same for them, to win the game.
Shubman Gill
“The wicket did become a bit easy for us. Lot of positives for us, last two three games didn’t went for us. It was a great season for Sai. 200-210 would have been par on this wicket. Saving those singles and doubles would have made a massive difference.”
