The Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will compete in the all-important Eliminator of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for a berth in Qualifier 2. On Friday, May 30, the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh will host the match.
The match winner will still have to play another game (Qualifier 2) to reach the final, but the loser will be eliminated from the tournament. The Punjab Kings were brushed aside by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who surged straight to the final, in Qualifier 1 on May 29. PBKS will vie to put things right in Qualifier 2, against winner of Eliminator.
We examine the three player battles that could determine tonight’s game as MI and GT prepare for a matchup that could decide their fate.
1. Shubman Gill vs Jasprit Bumrah

As big-match players, Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill will each have a lot of pressure to perform well for their teams. With his successes in the top order, Gill is anticipated to get the big runs early on for GT, while Bumrah will be required to lead MI’s bowling attack.
As he has done twice before, Bumrah’s task will be to get rid of Gill early on the powerplay and give his team a crucial breakthrough. Gill has scored 34 runs off 38 deliveries in the eight innings that the two have faced each other, and Bumrah has twice send the GT captain back to the dugout.
This matchup could very well decide the game’s fate.
2. Mohammed Siraj vs Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow is expected to play his first IPL 2025 game for MI after joining the squad as a replacement for one of the three players who declared themselves unable for the playoffs due to national duty. Bairstow may begin the batting with Rohit Sharma tonight because Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton left the MI camp following the league stage.
The English wicketkeeper-batter will face Mohammed Siraj, GT’s new-ball bowler, who has impressive T20s statistics against him. Bairstow will want to outperform the pacer because Siraj is having trouble finding his form. The Englishman has scored 60 runs at an incredible strike rate of 200 in 30 deliveries throughout their four prior meetings, and he has only been caught once.
As a result, this is going to be an exciting duel.
3. Sai Kishore vs Rohit Sharma

Sai Kishore, a GT spinner, has shown himself to be an important middle-overs wicket-taker who has given his team breakthroughs when they were needed. In order to put pressure on the opponents, Gill may add Kishore early on given the circumstances at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Sai Kishore will have the responsibility of catching the big fish, and Rohit Sharma will be among them, as GT’s spin wonder Rashid Khan has had a poor season. The former MI captain would try to start right away because of the match’s intensity and Rohit’s reputation for doing well in crucial games.
Sai Kishore dismissed Rohit in the one innings in which he bowled to him, and he hopes to do it again in the high-octane Eliminator.
