Washington Sundar, an ace bowling all-rounder, spoke about how he prefers to wait for opportunities rather than striving for perfection. Sundar’s unbeaten 23-ball 49-run effort helped India tie the five-match series against Australia, and they won the third T20I in Hobart by five wickets and nine balls.
Sundar discussed how he tackles his role as a bowling all-rounder. Sundar further stated that his team-first approach is where he finds satisfaction.
“I just try to wait for my opportunities. One thing I never want to do is chase results. Whenever an opportunity comes, I focus on what the situation and conditions demand, and play to my strengths. That way, I’m clearer in my mind and can truly enjoy the game. If I start thinking that I have to perform with the bat because I haven’t done much with the ball, it takes away the joy. As long as I follow my process and do what’s right for the team, that’s where the real satisfaction lies,” stated Sundar, as quoted by India Today.
“Today, I was mentally prepared for my chance to bat. I just wanted to watch the ball closely and react positively. I didn’t overthink anything — I just focused on seeing the ball and enjoying the moment. God was very kind today. It’s always a great honour to represent the country. Whatever opportunity comes my way, I want to be ready for it — that’s the mindset I carry every single day. Playing at this level is a lot of fun, and I just want to keep enjoying it.”

India took 187 chased in only 18.3 overs. Arshdeep Singh was the Player of the Match and won the prize by taking three wickets in 4 overs, with a cost of 35. Nevertheless, many ex-cricketers and commentators liked Sundar with his guts and powerful hits.
The Men in Blue will have four and five T20Is with Australia to play before going back home, in Carrara and Brisbane, on November 6 and 8, respectively. Suryakumar Yadav and his team will look forward to riding on the momentum.
The 26 year old recounted his state of mind when he came to the field with the bat to carry a run-chase. He also said that it is great to play on the India jersey and how much he enjoys the international cricket.
