South Africa's Reeza Hendricks plays a shot during the second Twenty20 international cricket match

South Africa’s batting unit dominated the second Twenty20 International against India, scoring 213/4 in the first innings on Thursday, December 11. With this battle, Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium became the newest international cricket venue for men’s cricket.

Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl in the match. Quinton de Kock (90) set the platform with a superb knock at the top for South Africa. The pair of middle-order batsmen Donovan Ferreira (30) and Davis Miller (20) utilized the foundation to produce a formidable finish as they played their team to a challenging 214 for the hosts.

India’s Jasprit Bumrah (L) and captain Suryakumar Yadav speak during the first Twenty20 international cricket match

Star Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah (0/45) and Arshdeep Singh (0/54) had rare off days, going wicketless while giving away more than 11 runs per cent over. Not even all-rounders Hardik Pandya (0/34) and Axar Patel (1/27) could stem the damage in their absence.

Fans were disappointed with India’s poor bowling performance in the second T20I against South Africa. They expressed their emotions by posting memes on social media. Here’s some of the best memes:

Ottneil Baartman leads South Africa to 51-run win in 2nd T20I

Ottneil Baartman took four wickets

Chasing a challenging 214, India made a horrendous start when opener Shubman Gill was dismissed off the second delivery of the first over for a duck. Abhishek Sharma (17) and Suryakumar Yadav (5) also departed back in the hut as hosts were reeling at 32/3 in 3.5 overs.

Tilak Varma then tried to get the pursuit back on track with a solid 62 (34). However, he received little backing from others. Men in Blue were eventually all out for 162 in 19.1 overs, losing the match by 51 runs. Suryakumar Yadav spoke about the loss during the post-match presentation, saying:

“We bowled first, and there was not enough we could do. We had to bat well, but, they understood the lengths to bowl. Dew did come in and stopped us in our tracks, but we weren’t good enough with the ball. We have to learn from the lengths they bowled. Shubman (Gill) and I should have batted better, me in particular.”

He continued:

“I have to score runs in the coming games. Axar (Patel) was the better choice today, in our opinion, but, it didn’t quite click. But let’s plan for the next match now.”
