Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has been fined 25% of his match fee and also been awarded one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials in Match No. 40 of the IPL 2026 against Punjab Kings.
Riyan had been deemed to have contravened Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct which is related to “behaviour that reflects badly on the game”. This was during the second innings when Riyan was caught smoking a vape in the dressing room.
Smoking is banned and punishment in India and can range up to INR 5 lakh fine and a 3 year jail term. For now, it will be observed whether Parag will be booked by the police for any offence.

Riyan Parag was found guilty and complained about the sanction by the match referee, Amit Sharma.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also looking for other avenues to take stern action against the particular team, its officials and the player (s) to safeguard the image of the IPL.
