Axar Patel of Delhi Capitals celebrates the wicket

The Indian cricket’s journey will transition from the Champions Trophy to the Indian Premier League (IPL) which begins on March 22. The teams underwent significant transformations after the November 2021 mega auction which took place in 2024.

KL Rahul of India looks on as players of India prepare to field during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match

The Delhi Capitals switched their captaincy from Rishabh Pant to KL Rahul because he was now a leadership candidate. Rahul refused the IPL captaincy job from his franchise because he currently wishes to focus on enhancing his playing performance. Axar Patel is set to take the leadership position according to data mentioned in the report which identifies him as the vice-captain of India’s T20 International team.

“Yes, Axar Patel is likely to be named as Delhi Capitals skipper for IPL 2025. The franchise had asked for KL Rahul to be the team’s captain, but he very much wishes to contribute for the side as a player in the upcoming tournament,” the sources said as quoted by NDTV.

Rishabh Pant to Lead Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025

Rishabh Pant of Delhi Capitals and KL Rahul of Lucknow Super Giants handshake after the win.

Rishabh Pant, a former DC captain and Champions Trophy colleague, was the most expensive player in the auction that the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) purchased, despite the fact that Rahul may not be leading the Capitals in 2025. For an astounding INR 27 crore, the left-hander was acquired.

The LSG franchise selected Pant as their upcoming tournament leader and supports him strongly for top achievements. Delhi franchise won 24 matches while losing 19 games when Rishabh Pant served as captain for a period of 43 games between 2021 to 2024 during his time as the 2024 T20 World Champion.
