Shreyas Iyer will lead the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025 and expressed his desire to bat at the number three position for the team during the next tournament. Extending from his Champions Trophy victory, the player shared his assured stance regarding batting at number three position.
As captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Shreyas Iyer has had an outstanding couple of years. He won his first IPL title and finished as his team’s top run scorer in the Champions Trophy. The 30-year-old batter, who will now become the 17th player to captain the team, went into great depth about his batting position during the press conference, which also included Ricky Ponting, the head coach of PBKS. As a batter, Iyer has also stated that he is definite about his favored position. It will also be intriguing because he batted for the Knight Riders at number four or lower the previous season.
“We already know that IPL is an integral part of Indian cricket and If I would want to mark myself at some position in T20, it would be No. 3, and that’s what I’m focusing at. I wouldn’t say that we are planning and thinking about what number I will be batting. This time I’m quite clear about that position. And I’m going to be focusing on that number. As long as the coach approves of me.”

Ponting-Iyer Duo Reunites for IPL 2025

Since they were teammates on the Delhi Capitals team from 2019 to 2021, Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting will be collaborating as captain and head coach once more. These were also the first times that Shreyas Iyer led an IPL team.
During those three years the Capitals achieved consecutive playoff memberships. The final match of the 2020 IPL season brought the Capitals to their first-ever face-off but they suffered a loss to the Mumbai Indians with a five-wicket deficit. Iyer maintained an unbeaten score of 65 while facing 50 balls while playing the match.
