As the first-ever tribal cricket player to compete in the IPL, Robin Minz made history. Minz, who is only 21 years old, was the target of a bidding war between the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians at the auction. After a battle between the two clubs, the Mumbai Indians paid him INR 65 lakhs instead of his base salary of INR 20 lakh.
Minz is yet to make his professional cricketing debut. He is a hard-hitting left-handed batsman and wicketkeeper. Earlier this year, Minz, a middle-order batsman, had played in an invitational T20 tournament in Odisha and hit an undefeated 73 off 35 balls.
Minz has represented the Jharkhand U19 and U25 teams. The five-time IPL champions were so keen to have him on their team that they selected him for a training camp. For better training, he also went to England.
The Lucknow Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders all invited the 21-year-old to try out. He tried out for Delhi but was not selected, hence he didn’t sell at the 2023 IPL auction.
After passing his tenth grade examinations, Minz stopped studying since he believes that MS Dhoni is his idol. His father served in the army and is now working in the airport security division in Jharkhand.
However, Robin Minz did not have a fantastic start to his IPL season as he was removed for just three runs on Sunday, March 24, during the match against Chennai Super Kings.
