West Indies made a change in their white-ball captaincy when they named Shai Hope as their new leadership. After a productive meeting between the head coach Darren Sammy and the Board they decided to name Hope as the new captain.
“Kraigg Brathwaite has been an outstanding leader for our Test team, guiding the squad with discipline, resilience, and a deep understanding of the game. His contributions have been invaluable, and under his leadership, we have witnessed historic moments that will be remembered for years to come,” Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“We thank Kraigg for his service as captain and look forward to his continued impact as a senior player,” added Miles Bascombe.
Braithwaite has only 2 Test matches remaining before reaching the milestone of 100 appearances. The moment of his 100th Test match will occur when West Indies host Australia for a Test series starting June-July at the commencement of the new World Test Championship (WTC). The Caribbean team performed poorly in the past cycle yet achieved their first-ever victory against Australia during 2024.
Shai Hope Appointed West Indies T20I Captain
Shai Hope has taken over as the new captain of the West Indies team in the white-ball format. The Board has acknowledged that they decided to name Hope the new captain following a productive discussion with head coach Darren Sammy.
