The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will host the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 13th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match on April 1 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. This will be the season’s first home game for Lucknow.
In their two IPL 2025 games thus far, LSG has won one and lost the other. They defeated the SunRisers Hyderabad to take third place in the standings after losing their first match by one wicket to the Delhi Capitals.
Under the leadership of batsman-wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, LSG will want to extend their winning streak and solidify their place in the top half of the rankings.
On the other hand, PBKS has only played once, defeating the Gujarat Titans, the 2022 champions. Early in the campaign, Punjab had a nice one-week breather and will be eager to go after their second victory.
In the meanwhile, there will be many intriguing games in the forthcoming schedule. We examine three head-to-head matches that could determine the contest’s fate this evening.
1. Nicholas Pooran vs Yuzvendra Chahal

So far in IPL 2025, the West Indian hard-hitter has been playing at a high level. With two half-centuries and 145 runs from two games, the left-hander is currently the top scorer.
The match could be decided by Nicholas Pooran’s matchup with Yuzvendra Chahal, a seasoned leg spinner. The way Chahal handles the in-form Nicholas Pooran will be crucial because he has a bad record against left-handers lately. Chahal was signed by the Punjab Kings at the auction.
Notably, Chahal returned with stats of 1/34 after going wicketless in the only game he has played this season.
2. Lockie Ferguson vs Rishabh Pant

Despite the Kiwi speedster’s absence from Punjab’s opening game, head coach Ricky Ponting would be enticed to add Lockie Ferguson because of his stellar record against LSG hitters.
Ferguson’s record versus LSG captain Rishabh Pant is excellent. In the shortest format, the right-arm quick has removed Pant three times in 36 balls while giving up just 37 runs. Tonight, the southpaw, who has had a mediocre start to the tournament, will try to overcome his obstacles and score a lot of points.
Notably, the New Zealander has a strong record against Nicholas Pooran, who is now in form, having dismissed him four times in just 20 deliveries and giving up 21 runs in Twenty20 cricket.
3. Arshdeep Singh vs Mitchell Marsh

To bring Arshdeep Singh back, PBKS spent a lot of money at the major auction. In the opening game against the Titans, the left-arm pacer bowled well, returning with statistics of 2/36.
Mitchell Marsh, who is playing well, will face Arshdeep in the powerplay, which could determine how the game plays out. The Punjab-born speedster will try to take advantage of the Australian all-rounder’s struggles with the oncoming delivery. In T20Is, Marsh has dominated head-to-head matches, hitting him for 14 runs off of six deliveries.
Marsh has also been playing very well this year, blasting two half-centuries in a row. Tonight, he will try to make it three in a row.
