The renowned Wankhede Stadium will have a stand dedicated in honor of India’s captain Rohit Sharma, according to an official announcement from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). In a major move to honor the accomplishments of Mumbai’s cricketing greats, the decision was made at the MCA’s 86th Annual General Meeting (AGM), which took place on April 15.
Rohit will now join a select group of Indian cricket legends who have stands at the Wankhede named after them. Rohit has guided India to significant white-ball championships in the past year, including the T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy. Level three of the Divecha Pavilion will be referred to as the “Rohit Sharma Stand.”
The MCA has also chosen to rename two other notable stands in addition to Rohit. Grand Stand Level 4 will honor the late Ajit Wadekar, a legend of Indian cricket, while Grand Stand Level 3 will be named in honor of former BCCI president Sharad Pawar.
Milind Narvekar, a member of the MCA apex council, proposed and Jitendra Awhad seconded the proposal to rename these stands. During the AGM, the proposition was unanimously approved.
Ajinkya Naik, president of the MCA, stated during the meeting that the organization is dedicated to honoring its cricketing history.
“Today’s decisions reflect our deep respect for the pillars of Mumbai cricket and our determination to build an even stronger future. These stands and this lounge shall forever echo the legacy of those who built Mumbai’s cricketing spirit — brick by brick, run by run.”’
The MCA has renamed the stands and set aside the MCA Pavilion’s match-day office as the “MCA Office Lounge” in honor of former president Amol Kale, who died in 2024.
The MCA has announced plans to boost the corpus for affiliated clubs to INR 75 crore, with the goal of eventually raising it to INR 100 crore, in order to assist cricket at the grassroots level.
Rohit joins League of Legends
The Wankhede has established four stands dedicated to Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant and Dilip Vengsarkar along with Rohit Sharma’s addition.

T20I cricket saw Rohit Sharma walk away as a champion post his victory in the T20 World Cup of 2024.
The Mumbai Indians’ season of 2025 has been a massive disappointment for Rohit Sharma. Throughout his five innings this season Rohit Sharma accumulated 56 runs while maintaining a strike rate of 136.58.
