Rohit Sharma gave the chase a strong start, Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

On Wednesday, April 23, in Hyderabad, Rohit Sharma extended his purple streak to lead the Mumbai Indians (MI) to their fourth straight IPL 2025 victory over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). He helped MI easily finish the 144-run chase with a game-winning 71.

MI’s choice to bowl first worked out well for them because they took four wickets inside the powerplay, severely taxing SRH. The home team did the hard work, though, as they managed to put a fighting total of 143 on the board thanks to Heinrich Klaasen (71) and Abhinav Manohar (43). With stats of 4/26, MI’s most productive bowler was Trent Boult.

In reply, Ryan Ricketon got off to a strong start before being removed by Jaydev Unadkat in the second over. Then, with their 64-run partnership, Will Jacks (22) and Rohit Sharma put the Mumbai Indians in control.

Rohit hit an astute inning which kept India in pace throughout his excellent gap-attacking performance alongside Suryakumar Yadav’s reliable backup. Sharma and his partner accumulated 53 points for the team until Sharma departed after facing 46 balls while hitting eight boundaries and three round hits. Surya concluded the match by guiding the team to victory with 40* runs across 19 balls and a 26-ball surplus.

Rohit Sharma’s powerful knock, which eased MI’s run chase, won him acclaim from the crowd. Among them, one said:

Here are the other reactions:

“Rohit Sharma is perhaps the only player who can almost guarantee a win for the team in 9 out of 10 matches when he’s in full flow. I’ve never seen anyone make winning look so effortless,” one user posted.

“When Rohit Sharma is at full flow there’s not a single batsman who’ll look better to the eyes than him. Absolute peak display of lazy elegance and entertainment,” another noted.

“Blind slogging and intent are good, but this classy version of Rohit Sharma is what we all want to see in the IPL,” a user tweeted.

Rohit Sharma made an undefeated 76 off 45 balls before this knock, which helped MI defeat CSK by a commanding nine wickets. Remarkably, ‘Hitman’ recorded consecutive fifties for the first time since 2016.

In 2014, Sharma hit 68* off 49 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders, followed by an 85* from 60 balls against the Rising Pune Supergiant. MI prevailed in both matches.
