On Wednesday, May 21, the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) faced off in Match 63 of the 2025 Indian Premier League at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI secured a spot in the playoffs with a resounding 59-run victory in the virtual knockout game.
DC invited the opposition to bat first after winning the toss. After dropping three wickets in the first seven overs, the Mumbai-based team got off to a rough start. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma (27) shared a partnership of 55 runs for the fourth wicket, saving their team from difficulty.
Suryakumar Yadav shined with the bat in the high-pressure game, finishing undefeated on 73 from 43 deliveries. In a brief appearance toward the end, Naman Dhir helped MI reach 180/5 in 20 overs with a final score of 24* from eight balls.
Mukesh Kumar took two wickets and Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman and Dushmantha Chameera got one each. It was DC’s bats who failed, as only Sameer Rizvi and Vipraj Nigam were able to contribute with 20 or more runs.

In the match, Rizvi scored 39 from 35 balls, while Nigam added 20 runs in just 11 balls. MI were helped by accurate bowling from Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner, whoboth picked up three wickets.
DC scored only 121 runs and were all out. The defeat ended their hopes of securing a place in the top four. With 13 points from as many games, they are currently placed fifth in the standings.
In contrast, MI advanced to the playoffs as the fourth and last team. They are presently ranked fourth in the rankings with 16 points after 13 games.
Here, we examine three instances from the competition that caused fans to buzz:
1. Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir Light Up Death Overs with Explosive Hitting

At one point, Mumbai was 132/5 after 18 overs, making the 180-run milestone seem like a far-off fantasy. With their blazing batting in the last two overs, Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir turned the tide.
Right-arm pacer Mukesh Kumar bowled the key penultiamtle over. Suryakumar began it by completing his half-century with a spectacular six over extra cover. There was no relief for the bowler as Dhir joined the celebration, even though the daring batter took a single on the following ball.
In the remaining deliveries, the 25-year-old went crazy, hitting two sixes and as many fours. 27 runs were given up by Kumar in the over. The final over saw more carnage, which only made things worse for Delhi.
Suryakumar scored 21 runs off Dushmantha Chameera’s bowling in the 20th over, including two maximums and fours. With 48 runs from the last 12 balls, the home team ended their innings strongly.

2. Jasprit Bumrah’s Slower Yorker Stuns Madhav Tiwari in IPL 2025 Thriller

In a pivotal match, Jasprit Bumrah once again displayed his class with an outstanding bowling display. In the 16th over, he took his second wicket of the match by destroying Madhav Tiwari.
The second ball was a short-pitched delivery from the speedster. Despite not getting the desired connection, Tiwari went for the pull and scored two runs. Bumrah cleaned up the child with a brilliant full-length slower ball after that.
