On Day 3 of the England versus India second Test on Friday, opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal broke the record of the quickest Indian, making 2000 runs in Test cricket. It was his 21st Test match and he reached the milestone at the age of 23. He surpassed that of Sunil Gavaskar who achieved this landmark in his 23rd Test match against West Indies at Trinidad during 1976.
In Day 3 of the 2 nd Test match at Edgbaston, the left-hander reached his mark with a boundary off Brydon Carse, in the sixth over. Barely half an over after reaching the milestone, he was sacked, lbw to Josh Tongue, making 28 in the eighth over of the innings.

In July 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Test debut, scoring a century in his first game against the West Indies. With a century at Leeds and an 87 in the opening innings at Edgbaston, he has started his debut tour to England on a high note.
Mohammed Siraj rattles England with six-wicket haul as India extend lead to 180

Mohammed Siraj, an Indian pace bowler, registered 6 70 in the first inning and led England to be all out at 407 in Edgbaston. This adjusted the score to 180 runs in lead by India and they now had the opportunity to have the upper hand in the match.
The foundation for the hosts’ first-inning 400-run total was laid by Harry Brook and Jamie Smith, who combined for 303 runs for the sixth wicket. While the latter was not out on 184, the former was dismissed for 158 as England rallied from 84/5 to reach a respectable score.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, the opening pair for India, got off to a good start with a barrage of boundaries. Josh Tongue, however, took the first blood in the second innings by dismissing jaiswal for 28. India had a 244-run advantage at the end of the day’s play, at 63/1 in 12 overs.
