Rishabh Pant of India walks out to bat during Day Two of the 4th Rothesay Test Match

One of the most notable instances of guts and dedication to the game for the current generation was when Rishabh Pant batted on Day 2 despite having a fractured right toe. When India lost their fourth wicket on the first day of the fourth Test match against England at the Old Trafford, the left-handed batsman had entered the game at number six. Pant had to walk back injured on 37 after being struck on the right foot while attempting a cunning reverse sweep.

The 26-year-old was not expected to take part in the fifth Test, and it seemed sure he wouldn’t be on the field. However to everyone surprise he went out to bat after Shardul Thakur was dismissed. One day Pant made Sachin Tendulkar, who is popularly known as the God of Cricket, impressed by his willingness to serve his team even when playing was not an easy task. He spent some time on the social media to express his respect to the young player.

Indian team was somewhat in a fix and it was not assured that the team would score well. However, Rishabh Pant struck several important boundaries in the innings that took India to the total of more than 350. The wicketKeeper-batter put up a fantastic battle to score his 54 runs in only 75 deliveries when a brilliant delivery by Jofra Archer dismissed him.

When he batted again, Pant added 17 more runs. He also put together a small but very important partnership with Washington Sundar, who scored 27. This stand might turn out to be priceless as the game goes on. India ended with 358 runs, and the highest was Sai Sudharsan who scored 61. Owing to the effort of Pant, the Indian bowlers have got a reasonable total to protect.
