India gave up more than 500 runs in an innings during an overseas Test match for the first time in a decade. In the fourth Test, England scored more over 500 runs in their first innings at Manchester.
India has last conceded a score of more than 500 runs to a team on foreign soil back in 2015, where they lost the fourth Test against Australia in Sydney. During that match, Australia went into bat first and piled up 572 runs in 7 wickets and declared it. More so, David Warner, who made 101 and Steve Smith, made 117; their teammates scored hundreds.
Chris Rogers (95), Shane Watson (81), Shaun Marsh (73), and Joe Burns (58) all made significant contributions with half-centuries. The visitors worked well, with Mohammad Shami taking five wickets. In response, they scored 475 runs, with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli each scoring hundreds.

Set a target of 349 in the second innings, Kohli and his team managed to reach 252/7 before the game finished in a tie. Since this game in 2015, India had not conceded more than 500 runs in an innings in an overseas Test till the current fourth game against England in Manchester.
Joe Root and Ben Stokes Lead England’s Charge as India Struggle on Day 3

In the current Test against England, the visitors scored 358 runs in the first innings. In return, the hosts have come out strong, facing an erratic attack that has battled to control the batsmen and maintain steady pressure.
On the third day, Joe Root and captain Ben Stokes put the visitors bowlers through their paces. The duo put on a partnership of more than 100 runs until Stokes retired injured due to cramping. Stokes departed the field with 66 from 116 balls.

Meanwhile, Root went on to score his 38th and 12th Test centuries against India, nine of which came at home. He also eclipsed Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting, becoming Test cricket’s second-highest run-getter, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar.
Joe Root was eventually removed for 150 from 248 balls. His knock contained 14 limits. Despite taking seven wickets thus far in the innings, the visitors’ bowling has been disappointing. Notably, Stokes returned to bat following the loss of the seventh wicket.
