In cricket, Sachin Tendulkar is considered one of the best batters of all time. When he was at his peak, he handled the world’s top bowlers with ease and even managed to make some well-known players appear inferior on the field.
Although nobody can doubt the genius of Tendulkar, there have been cases on and off the cricket field that attest to the very fact that even the greats have having an off day. One of such incidents happened when the former India captain had attended a Heathrow Airport in London to receive his wife Anjali.
During an interview with Gaurav Kapur on his own YouTube channel in September 2022, Tendulkar shared the amusing tale on how the car he and his companion were on as it takes them to the airport was not picking up speed in anything close to what was desired. Master Blaster remembered:
“Anjali was about to land in London. Me and my friend were sitting in the car and we saw that the gauge showed that the fuel was about to get over. So we went quickly and filled the tank. But while we were going to the airport, I noticed that the car isn’t accelerating beyond 25 mph, and it was confusing.”

“Then we realized that in a diesel-supported car, we filled petrol (laughs). I was sitting in the car for one hour outside the Heathrow airport and I kept on pressing the accelerator slightly to ensure that the car doesn’t stop at least until we reach home.”

Sachin Tendulkar also shared how he learned to drive during the discussion. The batting maestro grew up at Shivaji Park in Dadar, where he lived with his uncle and aunt. In the evenings, his parents would come get him and drive him to Bandra. Tendulkar learned to drive by intently observing the driver’s feet as the family occasionally took cab rides.
Tendulkar finished his remarkable career with 34,357 runs at an average of 48.52 in 664 games across all formats, including 164 fifties and 100 hundreds. He is still the top run scorer in international cricket almost ten years after retiring. In addition, he is the only player with 100 foreign tons.
