Sri Lanka further extended their fine streak in the Asia Cup 2025 with a 6-wicket victory over Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, September 18. The win was not only the third consecutive one that ensured their position on the top of the Group B with a solid net run rate of +1.278.
The Afghanistan team, which had won the toss to bat first, was reduced to the state of 114/7 before a massive 60 to his name in only 22 shots by Mohammad Nabi bailed them out to 169/8. In the case of Sri Lanka, pacer Nuwan Thushara was exceptional and his figures were 4/18.

In response, Sri Lanka has had an unstable beginning by losing Pathum Nissanka (6) and Kamil Mishara (4). But Kusal Mendis assumed the leadership with a stylish unbeaten 74 with 52 balls. Kusal Perera (28 off 20) and Kamindu Mendis (26* off 13) supported him well, and steered the Sri Lankan home in 18.4 overs.
The Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 round schedule was also guaranteed by the outcome of the Sri Lanka-Afghanistan match. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka qualified from Group B, although India and Pakistan had already qualified from Group A. India and Oman’s final Group A game on Friday is meaningless.
