Abhishek Sharma of India (R) celebrates fifty runs with Shubman Gill of India during the match between India and Pakistan at Dubai International Stadium on September 21, 2025 in Dubai

In the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match against Pakistan, Abhishek Sharma delivered a devastating blow. On Sunday, September 21, in Dubai, India defeated Pakistan by a margin of six wickets. Abhishek hit a fantastic fifty, his greatest score to date in the tournament.

His highest strike-rate was 189.74 in which he made 74 runs in 39 balls with five maximums and six boundaries. Abhishek had been getting good openings in vain attempts to convert them into a half-century at length.

The left-hander, who is only surpassed by Mohammad Hafeez, achieved the second-fastest fifty in India-Pakistan Twenty20 Internationals. In Twenty20 Internationals, Abhishek Sharma’s fifty is also the quickest by an Indian batsman against Pakistan.

That being said, let us look at the top five fastest fifties by an Indian batsman in Men’s T20Is against Pakistan.

5. Gautam Gambhir (38 balls)

In the 2007 T20 world cup final between India and Pakistan in Johannesburg, Gautam Gambhir made a very crucial knock to India. He began with the innings of 75 runs in 54 balls, contributing to the high of 157/5 by India. His consistent hitting saved high stress situations in India.

He took his 50 in thirty-eight balls, one off Umar Gul. India won their title in the first-ever T20 world cup with Gambhir coming up with an innings that included eight fours and two sixes. Robin Uthappa had also them struck a fifty in 38 balls against Pakistan in the same tournament earlier.

4. Virat Kohli (36 balls)

Virat Kohli delivered once again in the 2022 Asia Cup match in Dubai in the face of Pakistan. It took him 36 balls to complete his 50th year and he topped the record by hitting a six off his last ball of the 18 th over of Mohammad Hasnains.

Kohli later made 60 out of 44 balls, which consisted of four boundaries and a six. India failed to do so, though his contribution was brilliant, as Pakistan pursued the goal and took the match by five wickets.

Another wonderful knock by Virat Kohli was in the 2016 T20 world cup at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Kohli, who was trailing a small goal of 119, took the innings in hand and took his fifty in 34 balls with one off Shahid Afridi.

He remained unbeaten in most of the 55 out of 37 deliveries with the highest hit being seven fours and one six at a strike rate of approximately 150. His elegant performances helped India to a six-wicket victory and Kohli was well awarded with the ‘Player of the Month award.

2. Yuvraj Singh (29 balls)

Once, Yuvraj Singh had the highest T20I fifty against Pakistan, as an Indian. In 2012, he made the feat during the second T20I at Ahmedabad when he blasted 72 out of 36 deliveries.

With a six against Sohail Tanvir, Yuvraj got his fifty in just 29 balls. His four fours and seven sixes in an innings that lasted explosively making him strike at a rate of 200 led India to victory. He was declared as the Player of the Match due to his transformation performance on the field.

He achieved this milestone by a boundary off Saim Ayub in the eighth over. The fireworks by Abhishek were an indication of a successful chase of 172 by India that was successful in 18.5 overs. His 74-run knock made him earn the Player of the Match awards and applause of many people throughout the nation because he broke the record of Yuvraj Singh.
