A terrible stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in the deaths of eleven people and the injuries of numerous others following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) historic IPL 2025 victory celebration.
Following this, four people involved in the incident were arrested by Karnataka police. Nikhil Sosale, RCB’s Head of Marketing and Revenue at Diageo India, was arrested at the Bengaluru airport while flying to Mumbai. Notably, Sosale was identified as a key figure in the organization of the celebration.
Three DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt. Ltd. personnel were detained, including Kiran Kumar (Senior Event Manager), Sunil Mathew (Vice President Business Affairs), and Sumanth. DNA Entertainment organised the victory parade and public gathering.
Earlier, an FIR was reported against RCB, DNA Entertainment and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), who were charged with several things, including culpable homicide that doesn’t constitute murder. According to sources, the secretary and treasurer of the KSCA were gone when police visited their houses.
At the same moment, Siddaramaiah suspended top police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police B Dayananda, Additional Commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash and a number of Cubbon Park Police Station officers, for failing to keep the people safe.
The Karnataka government has delegated investigating authority to a one-man judicial committee chaired by retired High Court judge Justice Michael D’Cunha, with a 30-day deadline to present the findings. The inquiry has been complemented by a CID investigation, as directed by the state cabinet.
Additionally, the Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident, asking full answers from the government on crowd management measures, event approvals, and the reasoning behind the decision to allow unfettered public admission without sufficient infrastructure.
