Ex-Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has stood up vehemently in the support of Rohit Sharma critics and believes the player has the ability to continue playing until he is aged 45. Rohit is also now only playing 50-over cricket since he already retired in the T20Is and Test formats.
Yograj Singh pointed to the 76 runs match-winning innings of Rohit in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand to impress the worth of the olden-days-opening-batsman to the national ODI team. Yograj opines that it is possible that Rohit would be able to do well on the international circuit at least five years ahead.

“The man about whom so many people speak rubbish, Rohit Sharma — I said that day that Rohit will be my man, the man, my man. The way he batted (referring to his POTM performance in the 2025 Champions Trophy final), his batting one side and the rest of the team’s batting on the other side. That’s his class. You can say, Rohit, aapki hume paanch saal aur zarurat hai yaar (Rohit, we need you for five more years, man),” stated Yograj while speaking to News18’s CricketNext.
‘Make Him Run 10 Km a Day’ – Yograj Singh on Rohit Sharma’s Fitness

The 67-year-old advised Rohit Sharma to play domestic cricket in order to increase his level of fitness. In closing, the former speed bowler, who currently teaches at his own cricket academy, sternly warned the media not to disparage a player of the Indian ODI captain’s caliber.
“So please, do more for your country, work on your fitness and everything. Put four men on him, make him run 10 kilometres every morning. He has the class to play till 45 years of age, if he wants. I believe you should play domestic cricket; the more you play that, the fitter you’ll be. Who got the Player of the Match in the final? Rohit Sharma. So, you should only talk about things that you know.”

India and Rohit will play their next one-day international during their white-ball series against Australia Down Under. It is anticipated that Rohit, who last played for the Men in Blue in March, will make an appearance for the squad in October of this year. If selected, the series’ opening game will be the 500th game in the Nagpur native’s international career, which would be a significant turning point.
