Rohit Sharma, Team India’s ODI captain, celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with his family. Along with his brother and parents, the famous cricket player prayed to Ganpati Bappa and relished the celebrations.
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated in much of India in the commemoration of the birth of Lord Ganesha. The 10 days Hindu festival will end on September 6 with Visarjan.

The last time Rohit Sharma played however was in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. The veteran batsman of the Mumbai Indians (MI) was in exceptional form at the time of the tournament.
He was the second highest run scorer on MI in the competition having scored 418 runs, and this at a strike rate of 149.28 in 15 innings. The eventuating losing team, Punjab Kings (PBKS), won the five-time champions by five wickets to end their campaign.
In IPL 2025, Sharma announced his retirement in Test cricket in a noticeable way. ODIs are only the international form of game where the player opening the batting is still playing.
His statement occurred ahead of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. On May 7, Sharma posted the following in an Instagram story:
“Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honor to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”

Shubman Gill was named India’s new Test captain following Sharma’s red-ball retirement. After a five-match away series in England that concluded in a 2-2 draw, his stay got underway.
Rohit Sharma likely to return in India’s ODI series against Australia

The last Indian to play in the 2025 champions Trophy was Rohit Sharma. In his leadership, the Men in Blue won the ICC trophy defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final.
During the 50 over match he scored 180 with an average of 36 with five innings. The 38-year-old may later be able to come back to international cricket in October this year.
India and Australia will play a three-match away ODI series starting in Perth on October 19. Adelaide will host the second ODI on October 23 while Sydney will host the third on October 25.
